Want to help wash the oceans?
Oceans are where life began. Today they are humanity’s sewer and junkyard. Eutrophication, chemicals and plastic debris pollute seas on every continent’s shores, and algal blooms spreadwhere marine life used to thrive.
We think it’s time to take the oceans back. That also means rethinking what goes into the products we use every day: ingredients made from algae instead of oil. Ecological, biodegradable, renewable. Because the people of tomorrow deserve oceans full of life, and a swim in them too.
Origin by Ocean’s is looking for a Commercial Lab Tech Activist
At Origin by Ocean, we turn algae into something useful. We collect algal biomass, such as sargassum blooms, and process it into ingredients that replace fossil raw materials in cosmetics, textiles, feed supplements and more. Our customers are mainly international manufacturers, and cosmetics is our most important sector right now.
You’ll join our Marketing and NPD (new product development) team and keep our commercialgrowth moving as the company shifts ever more firmly towards commercialisation. You getsamples out the door and bring our biomaterials to life in the application lab.
What you’ll do
💦 Run our sampling. Prepare, ship and track customer sample requests worldwide, and follow upby email with customers and sales agents across the EU and North America.
💦 Build prototypes. Together with our Product Development Activist, formulate cosmetic (and occasionally food) prototypes that show what our biomaterials can do. Yes, they’ve won awards.
💦 Keep the lab running. Own lab hygiene and storage, and keep balances, pH meter and viscometer calibrated. File safety data sheets, flag reorders before anything runs out, and work withother teams to keep Certificates of Analysis complete for all our materials.
💦 Handle the admin that holds it all together.
Is this you?
You have practical or theoretical experience in cosmetic formulation, ideally compounding batchesyourself. You feel at home in a lab and know that precise, careful work is what turns a bold idea into a real product.
You own your time and your results. We give you the tools, resources and clear milestones, and youdecide how to get there. You spot what needs doing and make it happen. When priorities shift (and in a startup they do), you adapt without losing focus, stay calm under pressure and see change as a chance to find better solutions.
Our working language is English. Other languages are a welcome bonus.
What we offer
Meaningful work with real impact on our customers, our growth and our reputation as innovators. A high energy team where you’ll learn a lot about cosmetics, product development, sustainability and commercial work.
The role is full–time and fixed term, covering a parental leave. It runs until our colleague returns, an estimated 12 months, and may develop into a permanent position. Salary: 2,300 to 2,500 € per month.
